Eurofax on the WWW

Eurofax mailing list

Copied from Eurofax July 1998

Readers with access to the world wide web have been able to read Eurofax in a number of additional language versions, thanks to the work of volunteer translators. From next month, if you have an email address, you can receive Eurofax direct from our new free email subscription service. In collaboration with Global ScoutNet, the text of each month's Eurofax will be distributed by email in 6 languages: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Esperanto.

And that's not all! You can now choose to receive either of the official English or French language versions in their original layout, which you can open on your own computer and print locally using the popular 'portable document format' (or 'pdf format') created by Adobe Acrobat. With the correct 'reader' installed, these documents can be read on virtually all types of computers and you get a much clearer copy than the version which is received today by most member associations on their fax machines.

To use this new pdf format, you must install a copy of the free software Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0. You can download this from the world wide web site of Adobe: (You may also find this software on many of the CDs or diskettes which are distributed with computer magazines.)

Eurofax is available:

  • in portable document format (pdf):
    • English: eurofax-pdf-en
    • French: eurofax-pdf-fr
  • or in text-only format:
    • English: eurofax-en
    • French: eurofax-fr
    • German: eurofax-de
    • Italian: eurofax-it
    • Spanish: eurofax-es
    • Esperanto: eurofax-eo
How to subscribe - 3 easy steps: Everything is handled by sending just one simple email message:
  1. Open a new message in your email programme, and address it to listserv@scoutnet.org
  2. In the first line of the body of your message (not in the 'Subject:' line, which is ignored), type 'subscribe' followed by the name of the version of Eurofax you want to subscribe to, chosen from the right-hand column in the lists above.
  3. You should receive a confirmation that you have been added to the subscription list, normally within 24 hours.
